Wherein I don’t listen to Mrs P

Greetings, loyal minions. Your Maximum Leader found himself disregarding Mrs P’s advice. Some time ago your Maximum Leader complained about a Ruth Marcus op-ed piece in the Washington Post. In the comment section of that past post Mrs P advised your Maximum Leader to not read Ruth Marcus as it was bad for his mind and blood pressure. (Mrs P also advised that if your Maximum Leader continued to read Marcus she might have to review the status of his “man card.”)

Well… Apparently your Maximum Leader isn’t good at following Mrs P’s directions.

He read a Ruth Marcus piece on the Washington Post today. The piece is entitled “Why the filibuster is frustrating but necessary.” The first line of the piece reads thus: This won’t comfort Democrats mourning the loss of their filibuster-proof majority, but the existence of the filibuster is, on balance, a good thing. Ruth then goes on to explain what the filibuster is and why it is being more and more used in the Senate today. She is obviously upset that the filibuster can be used to thwart the agenda she wants to see advanced; but she seems to be able to live with it.

Well… Your Maximum Leader agrees with Ruth Marcus on this. And he’ll go a step further. He not only likes the filibuster, he LOVES the filibuster. Indeed, you will remember he likes gridlock. Frankly he doesn’t understand why more conservatives don’t love it.

NB to Ruth Marcus: You seem to be okay with the filibuster, call your Maximum Leader and he’ll see how he can educate you on the glories of gridlock too.

NB to Mrs P: Sorry.

Carry on.

No problem Maxy. I hope next week Ms. Marcus will write a piece “Why the Supreme Court is frustrating but necessary” and bike messenger it on over to the White House for O to read along his morning turkey bacon and scrambled egg substitutes. That way America won’t be treated to unprofessional lapses of his first class temperament. Bitch slapping the Supreme Court is not very presidential is it? (Between you and I, Harry Reid should have been less concerned with the color of Obama’s skin and more concerned with the thickness of it. But he wasn’t and neither was anyone else. So hey, it’s a win-win for the Republicans now!)

Hey, wasn’t Michale Steele perfectly brilliant last evening? Why his brilliance, to borrow from Chris Matthews made me forget for an hour that Michael was black. It was said at the time McDonell won the Virginia race that had Obama been on the ticket, the Dems would have own. Michael must have decided to blow that idea out of the water by tapping McDonnell to give the Republican response. Judging from the content of 2 men’s speeches last evening as well as the displays of their first-class temperaments, McDonnell won, again.

If it wasn’t Steele’s decision, then kudos to whoever chose him.

By the by, in case anyone is upset with my comments on Micheal Steele - full disclosure, we sat behind Michael Steele at the Papal Mass. He let Little Bertie rest his head on his shoulder when he- Little Bertie- grew tired. He and I have spoken on the telephone - I was advising him he needed to publically acknowledge how the Democrats lie or else he would lose Republican support this past Fall and in 2010. He would laugh at what I wrote here.

Thanks Mrs P. I am glad you will not review my man card status.

I was a bit shocked at the President taking on the Supreme Court last night. I can only say I was a “bit” shocked because the bourbon and ginger was starting to have an affect on me. I was quite mellow and nearly asleep by the end of the speech. I did perk up when he called out the justices. That was classless and quite uncalled for.

I don’t have much of an opinion one way or the other on Mr Steele. He has a thankless job to do and seems to be doing it pretty well and cheerfully. I think many of his mispronouncements are a factor of his trying to please the many coalitions in the party. I wish he would stop and think a little bit before speaking; but I can say that of many people, myself included.

I do like Bob McDonnell. I used to have breakfast with the Governor on Saturday a month. This was in the 1996-1999 timeframe. The Virginia Beach Republican committee would meet for breakfast once a month. Bob McDonnell was a delegate at the time. He is a good guy. I like him and am pleased he is our Gov. I thought his speech was a good one. The only quibble I had was delivery. I would have preferred that he not move his head as much left to right. Like he was shaking his head “no.”

I believe John Boehner chose McDonnell to give the response. As you point out, it was a good call regardless.

I didn’t watch the speech so I missed that great moment in Presidential history. I sincerely wish he had thrown his shoe at Justice Kennedy for being the swing vote. I mean why stop at yelling at them? Really show some passion. That would’ve been great. What would’ve been even better is if he had thrown his shoe for the Supreme Court to show up next year wearing hockey face masks.

I did read over at CBS that Obama said something about other ideas on helath care are not only welcomed but that they’d be listened to, John Boehner stood up before the class and raise his hand.

Obama didn’t call on him.

I’ve always liked Boehner since that (Union) husband and wife followed him around Florida in their Caddy breaking the laws taping his cell phone calls to Newt Gingrich saying they were only trying to record history for their unborn grandchild. That was awesome. It was also one of the few unabashedly pro-life statements the Dems have made in years. I was so proud of them as a party.

As far as DNC or RNC heads, whoever remembers who they are? Who was the guy before Michael Steele? When Steele is gone, will we actually recall him?
