Well, I wouldn’t normally give a crap, and I still don’t, but a friend is having an Oscars Party and it will be more like an “MST” event where we make fun of everyone. I’ve never been to one of these, but there’s going to be 1-2 dozen people there, and I plan to participate in the $5 pool. Here are my picks, but I’m not happy about some of them, I’m just trying to think like “The {pretentious cough} Academehhh”:
Movie - B.back
Director - Ang Lee
Actor - Ledger (although I’d rather see Hoffman win)
Acress - Witherspoon
Supporting Actor - Clooney (might be upset by Gyllenhaal)
Supporting Actress - Weisz (though I could see Williams in an upset)

I’m actually not watching it, because, well, I’mworking. I’m prepping a tv pilot that start shooting next week and I’m spending the day on paperwork and planning. Blah, really, but I was going to skip the oscar party thing anyway this year.

Incidentally — while not my favorites either (as I posted earlier), I think Mo’s picks are all on the money except for Best Actor: I think Hoffman is a better bet. Why? Academy member who vote for Brokeback out of liberal guilt will take it out on Ledger, where all of other nominees delivered equally-accomplished (better even, in my opinion) performances and they can internally justify voting for someone else.
