Here is a thoughtful application of theology to current events as discussed over at the Volokh conspiracy.
Would Martin Luther advocate turning the other cheek?
OR
Would Martin Luther cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war?

Not being a Lutheran, nor well versed in his theology beyond the broader break with the RCC, I haven’t a clue what Luther would advocate.
Okay, being a member of the ELCA, I suppose I would be looked on to provide light in this discussion. Considering I would be seen as a heritic from the get-go, take my opinions with a grain of salt.
First of all, Martin Luther is closer to modern day Fundamentalist Christians than to the ELCA. He might recognize the Wisconsin Synod. Second, Martin Luther would probably come down on the side of the government regardless. BUT, that assumes he would even take a stance on a political issue.
Today’s pastors, Episcopallian, Lutheran, or other are highly prone to open their mouths where they have no business doing so. I wrote extensively a month ago on the subject of church and state. Quoting Marting Luther simply adds fuel to MY fire, and provides no clarity in the discussion at hand.
For myself, I am a firm believer in carry, whether open or concealed. I don’t use any religiousl doctrine to support my position. It has nothing to do with God and me, and everything to do with me and the guy over there.
