I just think the whole iPod thing just shows thoughtlessness on the part of whomever in the Administration is putting these gifts together. I get the feeling that some intern in the White House ran down to the Apple Store and bought the iPod before leaving and someone was downloading from iTunes on Air Force One while they were crossing the pond…

I think you are being charitable again. Which is nice. I’m not criticizing that -don’t let them drag you down into the gutter.

The people in the Administration are shallow cutthroats who have dedicated themselves to their careers. People like that have no true taste. They like whatever is right to like at that moment. And they probably thought it was cool to give a little old lady an iPod. It’s arrogant because, ultimately the true message is the assumption that she’s not with the times.

And the Queen is not of the times is she? She represents another time yet she’s timeless. This is why she is so beloved. People in the O Administration cannot understand this. They don’t have it in them to understand it as they were too busy trying to get to the White House to learn what really makes people tick. Instead they fall back on the quicker route : manipulate.

And Mrs. O manipulated the press well during her time with the Queen. She did not bow to her like decent people do. Instead later, when all of the press was allowed in with the rest of the G20 crew, Mrs. O breached protocol by putting her arm around the Queen. As if to hug her. (Oprah must have cried) The Queen, in return and she did not have to, placed hers around Mrs. O’s waist. The press was delighted about this “real intimacy” between the two. Photos were snapped.

The Queen’s grandchildren who are very intimate with her, bow to her each time they see her. Real intimacy involves a sincere recognition of who the person is and your true relationship with them.

Could it be that the Queen put her arm around Mrs. O not because she liked her but because she wanted to avoid an international incident? Prince Harry has recently come under great fire for racism. If the Queen had not returned Mrs. O gesture, I do not believe our American press is above suggesting the Queen of England is a racist….

Perhaps I’m being charitable again but… I don’t think Obama is gay. Perhaps he’s just worried about getting a kiss with Michelle standing right there. Michelle looks like she could be a scrapper in a pinch. She probably holds a grudge too.

Frankly, if it was me, I’d get a kiss full on the lips and try a tush grab too. Nick wouldn’t mind - in fact he’d understand…

I got to worrying I was being to tough on our first gay president and since I don’t watch TV, I looked up the transcript of an interview of Meredith Viera and Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary. Look, just look :

“Viera “I can’t let you go here, Bob, without asking you: What was up with the iPod? You give the Queen an iPod? I mean, I would not know what to give the Queen of England. I’m not sure an iPod would be the first thing to come to mind. What was the thinking behind that choice?”

“GIBBS: I’m not sure entirely, uh, whose idea it started out as, but it’s loaded with, as — as you mentioned, some show tunes, uhhhh, and it’s also loaded with, uh, some pictures of the Queen’s most recent visit to the United States. The president remarked to me this morning that, uh — uh, her sensibilities sort of reminded her a bit, uh, of, uh, his grandmother only with a much bigger house.”

How I was wrong is that I wrote in this very thread:

You recall during the primaries how he described his grandmother’s sensibilities - as those of a typical white person when she sees a black person on the street….

I heard Barry loaded it with MC Hammer to which the Queen, in all her majesty said, “I thought that dude was dead”. She also offered to swap the iPod to Brown since her DVD player can play any format….but it’s just a rumor.
